14 December – Heather Smith – Community Energy

CCL Australia Monthly National Meeting – Sat 14 Dec 2019 – 2PM AEDT

Community energy is clean energy with a difference because it allows the community to get involved.

Community energy generates local benefits that existing energy markets have failed to deliver so far – for example, by delivering profit to the broader community, and unlocking projects (renewable energy and energy efficiency) that wouldn’t otherwise occur.

Community energy helps communities rethink what the energy system of the future might look like and can offer solutions that are more equitable, efficient and resilient.

Heather Smith

is an electrical engineer and former policy adviser on climate change to the South Australian Government. She has recently returned from a Churchill Fellowship study tour looking at energy transitions and community energy in different countries.

She is the Chair of Coalition for Community Energy, and a Board member of CORENA, Citizens Own Renewable Energy Network Australia, a non-profit group. CORENA has just funded its 26th community energy project.
