Lobbying update! In our December blog post and newsletter we reported that Centre Alliance MP, Rebekha Sharkie, had announced in a speech in the House of Representatives that she and Independent MP, Dr Kerryn Phelps would co-chair a Parliamentary Friends of Climate Action (PFOCA) group. Read it here. CCL has been advocating such a group as a safe forum for constructive dialogue on climate solutions for some time. We’ve known for a while there was support from individual politicians fairly widely across the political spectrum for this concept. Rebekha Sharkie said in a media statement that another 27 Federal MPs have signed up for the group! We have yet to hear who but look forward to a formal launch in coming weeks.

Over recent weeks, CCL volunteers have met with a number of elected representatives from both major parties who we considered might be interested in joining, or encouraging others to join. We are hoping that there is still time before an election is called to establish a truly non-partisan Parliamentary Friends group with support and members from both major parties as well as the cross-bench.
